Hibachi Hut and Texas Star Cafe were both nominated for this honor.

The Hibachi Hut is proud to be one of the 24 finalists.

The criteria was that the restaurant had to originate in Kansas, be in operation for ten years or more, be a non-national franchise, and be iconic beyond their home region.

The public may vote for their top eight online at or once by paper ballot.

One e-mail address may be used three times to vote. Voting ends June 15.

The contest purpose is to educate the world about Kansas and encourage travel.

Photo in Hibachi Hut

The photo in the back of the Hibach Hut has been a favorite of patrons for many years.

The photo is a picture of Avery Island, "The home of world-famous TABASCO® Sauce. Avery Island, Louisiana, lies about 140 miles west of New Orleans. Surrounded by swamps and marshes, Avery Island is a . . . natural paradise, inhabited by exotic plant and animal species from around the world."

The photo was taken by Rod McKinski, Manhattan Mercury.
